| My client, a major American financial institution is seeking their Director of Hedge Accounting & analysis. Responsibilities: Deliver on the competency attributes of a people manager in setting vision and direction, engaging with staff and colleagues on issues and driving execution. Direct the development and continued maintenance of operational accounting policies and procedures in compliance with firm’s accounting policies as it related to FAS133 and Hedging. Ensure major processes are fully documented and evidenced to be in compliance with the firm’s policy related to the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Ensure proper review and monitoring are occurring and in compliance with policies and procedures. Continue to develop the knowledge and analytics around the Hedge program. Work closely with Business Analytics & Decisions, Capital Markets, and Financial Reporting as well various groups in the Finance organization in running the monthly close processes for FAS133 hedge accounting. Work with colleagues and other business areas to support new business initiatives and participate in other projects and business initiatives as assigned by senior management. Review and direct staff on analytical analysis and review hedge results for accuracy based on data provided, and also for reasonableness based on trends and changing conditions. Participate in the monthly production of hedge accounting results ensuring that monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting is accurately stated according to internal and external reporting requirements. Be able to communicate and articulate those results to senior management on a monthly basis. Perform hedge documentation review, results validation, and all other operational procedures designated for hedge inception or hedge end. Ensure that execution of the hedge accounting processes are properly documented and incorporated in the financial reporting process. Review the monthly, quarterly, and annual derivatives reporting and financial disclosures. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA or MBA in finance preferred. Public accounting experience a plus. 10-15 years of progressively challenging experience in accounting, audit, or financial reporting function. Experience with accounting processes of a large financial service institution, including an understanding of GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and guidelines of other oversight groups such as FASB and AICPA. Must be strong in interpreting GAAP accounting theory. Experience in FAS133 hedge accounting application preferred. Basic understanding of fixed income and derivative markets and valuation methodologies preferred. Sharp analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to provide sound recommendations to management. Advanced technical skills in designing and maintaining complex Excel spreadsheets utilizing macros.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced team environment and to maintain good working relationships with customers and internal partners. Must have demonstrated ability to manage and direct a team. Must have a demonstrated ability to analyze complex transactions.
