Position Description: Assistant Teacher - Salary Position- Full Benifits -North and East Locations.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Advance the instructional functions of the school by assisting the teacher and contributing to the children/students receiving a personalized, quality eduction, according to the Montessori philosophy, which provides a foundation for continued learning. Engages in parent, school, and staff activities of the school as well as community service.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Director(s.
Assistant Teachers are eligible for promotion at the sole discretion of the school and its Director(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assistant teachers duties and school/program responsibilities are designed to advance the instructional functions of the school, but do not include the full range of teaching responsibilities and scholarly activity that full-time certified teachers undertake in the school.
Assistant Teachers have three primary areas of responsibility: Teaching, Internal Service, and External Service.
Teaching:
* Assists in the planning and structure of learning based on class objectives
reflective of the school's vision, philosophy, and established curriculum:
- assists in developing course content reflective of current research and curriculum guidelines;
- assists in selecting appropriate classroom learning experiences;
- assists in developing and maintaining current course syllabus and learning materials, reflective of the established curriculum;
- assists in selecting appropriate materials and other learning resources.
* Assists in implementing teaching strategies to facilitate child/ student learning.
* Assists in maintaining daily records of individual child/student classroom activities on appropriate form.
internal service
* Assists in maintaining classroom and equipment in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.
* Assists in maintaining all common and playground areas in a clean, neat orderly condition.
* Attends all parent meetings, parent help days, and all other school functions.
* Attends all staff and teacher meetings, and in-services.
* Attends all teacher planing days
* Assists in the ongoing development, interpretation, implementation, revision and evaluation of the curriculum and education program.
* Assumes appropriate role in school's licensing and certification process.
* Serves on committees, as may be established in the future, and from time-to time.
* Acts as a resource to other staff members
* Assists in the recruitment and orientation of children/students.
* Promotes East and North campus liaison.
* Contributes to the school achieving its goals and working as a team by consistently demonstrating appropriate work habits, cooperation, and demeanor.
* Demonstrated willingness to adjust to varied work assignments as the school workload demands.
* Demonstrates willingness to enhance their knowledge of the Montessori philosophy of education.
* Maintains awareness of, and abides by, school's administrative policies and procedures.
External Service:
* Participates and demonstrates an interest in community activities/ groups.
* Promotes Casa Niños School of Montessori, Inc. to external audiences.
CHALLENGES
The assistant teacher collaborates with teachers, assistant teachers, other staff members, and the Director(s) to resolve the following:
* Facilitating and maintaining an environment conductive to learning.
* Developing productive relationships within the school and community.
* Assists with curriculum/program planning, development, implementation and
evaluation.
* Assists in developing teachers, student, staff, and program policies within
the structure of the school's administration.
The assistant teacher refers the following to the respective classroom teacher
* Issues with parents.
* Unsatisfactory student performance.
The assistant teacher refers the following to the Director(s):
* Issues requiring interpretation and/or clarification of policy.
* Recommendations related to budget, personnel and/or curricular changes.
An ongoing challenge for the assistant teacher is to assist in providing quality education while coordinating other responsibilities and responding to multifaceted demands from others with the constraints of an ever changing environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
* Experience in a Montessori program/environment preferred.
* Knowledge of subject matter in assigned area(s).
* Leadership and organizational skills.
* Strong communication and teaching skills
