This position administers all Credit Union networking equipment as it relates to its WAN and LAN. The Network Administrator ensures the stability of the in-house WAN/LAN network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all network hardware (routers, switches), servers, software and communication links.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installs, configures and maintains software and hardware connected to the WAN and LAN.
- Monitors all servers and communications equipment connected to the WAN/LAN to maximize the performance of each system and to maximize server up time.
- Interfaces with credit union management, vendors and consultants to implement new technologies and to troubleshoot existing problems
- Assists in the development of and monitoring of backup and site security procedures on network servers
- Performs computer system maintenance on the credit union’s WAN and LAN hardware and software.
- Plans for hardware and software upgrades to WAN/LAN technologies. Includes loading of all necessary upgrades and patches
- Practices network asset management of component inventory, including that essential logs and schematics have been changed to reflect upgrades to the WAN/LAN and equipment lists for all branches’ hardware and software are updated.
- Manages and ensures the integrity of host computers, multiple databases, modules and data transfer
- Deploys and maintains firewalls, cryptography systems and all host security activities
- Distributes and supervises server storage space allotments
- Analyzes system or application usage and plans for growth or increase’s in network capacity.
- Assesses the need for any network reconfigurations (minor or significant) and reports to VP Technology. Executes them if required.
- Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure hardware, software products and services
- Process daily job streams as well as receive and send 3rd party files to a member database system.
- Act as a second line of support to end users, after the Systems Technician. This includes, but is not limited to, administering user accounts, permissions and access rights. Perform back-ups; install patches and latest virus protection.
- Responsibility includes being part of the on-call team for the IT Department
- Perform other duties as assigned by the VP Technology.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Must have strong knowledge and at least 1-year experience in WAN/LAN and Virtualization.
- Network administration of servers, routers and switches including an Internet connection with firewalls.
- Must have knowledge of Server Virtualization using VMware in a SAN configuration.
- Must have technical knowledge of PC’s and operating systems.
- Must have hands-on experience of software and hardware troubleshooting.
- Must have the ability to repair computer hardware.
- Must be adept at reading, writing and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities highly recommended
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must have knowledge of all Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Previous credit union or other financial institution experience preferred
- Previous UNIX experience preferred
Must be willing to relocate or commute to Coulee Dam, Washington. |
