Part Time Animal Control Officer
Job Description
Summary of Part time position: The part time animal control officer of the DCSPCA will be required to work 20 hours a week, which may include weekends. These hours will be primarily dedicated to enforcing state and local animal control laws in two municipalities. The part time animal control officer will be required to be on call and available after hours for animal control and other humane law emergencies on a rotating schedule.
Qualifications:
The part time animal control officer must have a high school diploma and one year RELEVANT experience in the field. The ACO must have a clean and valid driver’s license and be able to drive large vehicles. The ACO must be able to bend, climb in and out of vehicles, drive for long periods of time, and lift 50 pounds safely. The ACO must have exceptional people skills, and be able to speak with and direct angry and agitated persons in a professional manner. The ACO must be able to handle frightened and aggressive animals safely and humanely.
Job Purpose:
To enforce local dog ordinances for townships with whom the DCSPCA has a contract.
To enforce Article 7 of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law
Major Responsibilities:
Enforce Ag and Markets Laws under Article 7
Enforce local dog ordinances for appropriate municipalities
Investigate complaints of dogs running loose, barking dogs, etc.
Issue tickets to violators of local ordinances
Issue tickets to violators of Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets law.
Appear in Court as necessary
Prepare and deliver monthly reports for the Municipalities and for the DCSPCA
Investigate bite cases and prepare proper paper work
Assist the Humane Law Officers with their work as necessary
Perform other related duties as required
